After the Second World War, my father Robert Whiter set up as a bicycle frame builder in Wood Green, North London
I’ve been joining pieces of metal together most of my life, particularly as a stop frame animation armature builder. But it was really this little bike, which was mine, second hand, at the age of four, and which my two children also used to learn to ride, which inspired me to try building my own frames. Because you just can’t get anything like this any more!
Over the past 18 months I’ve developed an idea for a range of children’s bikes called Mid Century Kid
I will be exhibiting two hand built prototypes at Bespoked at the London Velodrome from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th April 2014. I should be easy to find, in the New Builders section between the cafe and Look Mum No Hands (another cafe). I would be delighted to see you there!
